Invite Rita to Speak

Grief • Caregiving • Life After Loss

Grief can leave us feeling alone, even in a room full of people. I speak openly about caregiving, losing a spouse, and learning to live when life looks nothing like we planned.

I’m Rita C. New, author of Poetic Tears and facilitator of Hope & Healing Fellowship at Lasker Baptist Church. As a widow after 52 years of marriage and former caregiver for my husband, Andy, I speak from lived experience, bringing faith, poetry, and moments of humor to these conversations.

I welcome invitations from churches, grief-support groups, caregiver gatherings, and community organizations. My purpose is simple: to help people feel seen, encourage honest conversation, and offer hope without pretending the hard parts are easy.

Speaking Topics

Grief Beyond the Funeral
The loneliness, changed relationships, and everyday moments others may not see. An honest conversation about what helps widows and widowers feel supported.

Caring for Someone You Love
The love, exhaustion, guilt, and grief that can come with caregiving. Reflections from caring for my husband and encouragement for those still in that role.

Who Am I Now?
Finding identity and purpose after loss. Making room for friendship, laughter, and meaningful moments while honoring the person you love.
